Flaming River Column Under Dash Mount? How?
« on: April 10, 2014 - 03:07:21 AM »

Hey guys, I recently swapped my XV/Ididit column out to install a Flaming River column. Removed the old column to find that the Flaming River one doesn't have any welded on mounting holes to mount it directly to the OEM steering column mount under the dash in my 70 Challenger like the Ididit one did?

Has anyone installed one or know where to find a mount to match my car? Flaming River don't list any mounts for MoPars (that I could see), just Chev and Ford mounts and they're the u-joint wrap around looking ones. The column is ready to install so I'm kinda stuck until I figure out what I need to mount it.

Thanks for any helps guys!

Cheers,
Carl

I've installed a Flaming River column in a 71 Cuda. The owner supplied a mount with the column that had to be modified. It was a simple clamp type that bolted on to the two existing studs. :2cents:

Thanks Anluto. Really? Just anything that can go around and be bolted to the OEM mount? Sounds kinda redneck lol. I thought there'd be a part or part number, guess not.

I mounted mine with this style of mount:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fla-fr20114k?seid=srese1&gclid=CICPrejl470CFYdlfgod9VYA2g

I had to cut the ends off of it and grind it slightly to get it to fit up in to the space where the 2 studs are for the stock steering column.

Thanks Travis, I actually found and ordered that from Summit 2 days ago now haha.
Good to know what I have to do. Never easy huh, always "massaging" involved.  ::)

yep that link has the same mount i used for my flaming river column. it took some modifications to get it fitting nicely but its all done now and looks pretty good.
Though.... i gotta say i was dissapointed with the design of the ignition switch linkage down to the contact pack on the flaming river column, what a crap idea!! i had to send my brand new column back to flaming river went the linkage jammed up somewhere inside the column behind the ign switch. The tilt column is really nice to have, but I wish there could be a better design for the ignition switch (that dosnt look bad such as ididit). i have mixed feeling about flaming river as a whole....prob wouldnt buy from them again. how have your experiences been?

Thanks guys but this is well an truly sorted now haha, was over a year ago.

Um, just preferred the fit and finish and the key placement of the FR column. Quality looked better too IMO. I have extremely high standards too. But....who knows, in todays bulk made goods, quality control can be up and down, perhaps they just got a dud?

Cheers again fellas!
