« on: April 10, 2014 - 08:32:36 PM »
I have a mild 440 with scat crank, rods, 484 mopar grind cam and stock heads. What is my best option?  I'm thinking a demon 750, but I really don't know. Suggestions???

I was thinking 850, but was worried it might be too much and run rich. What about the demon carbs?  I've never had luck with Holley.

Quick fuel or Proform.   The latest Holleys are adjustable as well,  but the first two are usually better priced

you will get a million different answers to this question. I agree with proform or quick fuel. I tend to go smaller on cfm for a street driven vehicle. unless you need every last ounce of power and spend a lot of time above 5000 rpm, a 750 will work very well. smaller venturis will keep the airspeed up through the carb making it more responsive for lower rpm street driving.  :2cents:

Stock heads? A 750 would be ideal.  I had a Holley 750 DP on a built 440, and was making
over 500 hp pretty easy.  Had ported 915 heads.  Had same purple cam too.

You'll be quicker on the street with a 750.  Better throttle response.

I have a seriously built 496 now, and had to go up to an 850!

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Great advice. I think I'll go with the Proform carb.

A friend is telling me that the Proform carbs will leak because they are basically a Holley. He suggests Edelbrock. Thoughts?

They are basically a Holley in design. Your friend is wrong. Follow Chryco's advice,  he is the most experienced person in this thread.
