Latest update. I'm glad I went ahead and decided to fix the frame rails because it turned out pretty good!


Suspension mount cleaned up and ready to reinstall.






Making the template for the section of rail that needed to be replaced.










Ready to install!






Fully welded and welds ground smooth.








Did the best I could on the inside but it was really hard to get my welder at the right angles.








I blasted the inside of the rail as best as I could. One section was pretty rough but nothing blasted through. I picked at it with a screwdriver and decided it was solid enough to leave alone. I gave it a good coating of rust sealer and called it a night.










Next up is the trunk floor pan. I'm getting there!  :woo:

Way to go Dave! Some of that frame rail patch looks familiar-LOL . I'd've given you a bigger piece if I'd known what you were getting into! You're doing a hell of a job- keep up the good work. Still welding on mine, too.  :thumbsup:  Ian

I'm not sure about the heaven thing, but I'd like to believe you; because it sure is hell welding the old lace tablecloth back up! Another 5 hrs today. Dave knows what it's like.  :cheers:

Nice video! The issue you experience with the sandblaster is a common problem. For real sandblasting you would need a compressor putting out 30-35 cfm and a big tank so it doesn't overheat. You could experiment with a smaller nozzle or reducing nozzle hole. The drawback is the blasting area is smaller and it will take forever, but ok for smaller details. A too small nozzle reduces air speed and it will not pull up sand from bucket. There is a combination that works but it woun't be perfect...just my experience...  :clueless:

I bought a 2 piece trunk pan off kijiji a while back. What I didn't realize at the time was that this trunk pan was designed to be drop in replacement without having to remove the tail panel. This meant that the lip that goes under the tail panel was missing. It was a pain but I managed to make my own lip.








Next up I tackled the frame rail on the right side. I blasted the inside of the rail the best I could, cut out the old scabbed on patch, removed the rotten section of rail, and removed the trunk cross-member.

Rear frame rails are repaired! I'm so glad I decided to give that repair a shot instead of just buying new frame rails.
