Whats up with my Switch Panel Wiring???
« on: April 12, 2014 - 04:43:10 PM »
Hey guys,
I'm hooking up my gauges and noticed something.
With all connectors connected, I have something weird going on.
One terminal is not connected yet one connector isn't connected to anything.
Please see the pics, there are areas circled in red of what I'm talking about.
It's for the dimmer switch.
Any ideas?

Thanks for looking.

Maybe I don't understand the question. You say it's the dimmer switch but those are pics of the wiper switch. Last pic has the dimmer sw lower right.
That a variable wiper sw. Your car came with a 2 sp?

Your wiper switch connections look normal to me. BTW, that's a 2 speed wiper switch.

Oops. My bad.
Wiper switch.

So why do I have a lead with no connector and the connector with no lead? Look just a little bit closer please. It's almost like the connector needs to be flipped.

Perhaps they use the same wiring harness for 2sp and 3sp wiper motors. But that would only explain half the situation.

This subject has come up before, but I couldn't find the old posts.  Pretty sure the wiring harness was the same for 2-speed and 3-speed (variable) motors.  The 70-72 switches had one blade left empty off to the edge.  The 3-speed switch had 7 blades - six used.  The 2-speed switch had 6 blades - five used.

Thank you FY1Cuda.
I looked thru old posts but most had removed pics and wasn't helping much.
So I do understand what you mentioned. And looking at the wiring diagram, the brown wire on the right (which for me doesn't slide on to any terminal) is for the washer motor. So I have a non washer bottle pump switch. I can live with that.
So what is the deal with the terminals not being used in both switches? Is there another option I'm missing out on?
I have that left side terminal with nothing attached. That is bugging me now.
I would like to get this figured out before installing the dash.
Thanks for your help.

On our 3-speed/variable switch, that empty blade is a ground - but it's still empty.  I'm guessing it's the same for the 2-speed.

Maybe so. But on the two speed switch, it has a strap going to the top blade where as the three speed has it going to the bottom blade.  :clueless:
