Digging up a old thread to give an update.

I spoke with Jamie in detail today, as I needed a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. I was hopping to hold off until I got my A855 5sp, but sadly my current clutch isn't going to hold up that long.

Anyways, Jamie is about six months away from doing some real production number on the 5sp, currently he is building them in small batches.  He feels that he should be able to get everyone on the current list their trans within a year, add there are about 400+ people on the list, I am #244.

Since I need to pull the trans to put the clutch in, I decided to also pull the trigger on a 23 spline overdrive unit as I want to drop some RPMs on the freeway.  Once my A855 is ready I will resale the 23 spline to recoup some $.

This is what he said about deposits "Regarding deposits. We are not requiring any at this time. However, shortly we will be requiring a 50% deposit from customers on the list to keep things rolling as efficiently as possible."

Here is what he said about production runs "The initial run will be approx 150 transmissions. We currently have well over 300 people waiting for the unit. Therefore, I expect to satisfy the list or at least be very close to satisfying it in two production runs." and he is about six months away from starting the first run.

Someone with greater manufacturing capability may beat him to the punch.

http://www.mcleodracing.com/index.php/driveline/mcleod-muscle-car-5-transmission.html

McLeod Muscle Car 5 Transmission

Currently Producing GM Version.
Part Number 512957.

Ford & Mopar Versions Late Summer 2015.

Additional Information

The revolutionary Muscle Car 5 Transmission with a 2.95 1st gear and .63 5th gear. Its innovative design gives muscle car owners the ability to use an overdrive transmission without having to make expensive or annoying modifications. The McLeod Muscle Car 5 is designed with an exclusive case design that allows for fitment into tight tunnels. Gone are the days of cutting your floorboards to be able to get the benefits of improved fuel economy and lower RPMs that an overdrive transmission provides. With 8620 forged steel gears and a 32-spline output shaft, the Muscle Car 5 can handle up to 500 ft lbs of torque. We made sure the gears were fully synchronized for smooth shifting and quiet operation. The internal rail shifter aides in quick and smooth shifts. The front cover is designed so it will bolt up to your factory bellhousing. Shown in optional red. Call for details on powder coating.

500ft lb of torque? Wimpy. Passon's has a much higher torque and hp limit I thought?

I'd love a Passon. I'm hoping Jamie can nail his new production line and start rolling these out :).

Passon claims a 700  lb ft constant torque value. I have no idea how McCleod claims there values. The CEO of McCleod is a Mopar enthusiast and runs one behind a pretty stoutly built 528 Hemi, so take that for what its worth.

I imagine these will lead to the Passon wanting deposits.  I'm sure he doesn't want to loose a third of his orders because someone else is delivering product ahead of him, so get a deposit so people don't walk away.

HP2. You have it all wrong! Jaimie is not taking deposits to ensure a sale. He took some business advice from me and spoke to his business associate and the reason he takes deposits is the same as why most other manufacturing businesses in the world do the same  - operating capital to build the product you order. I will bet you that Mcleod will not fit in a mopar without floor modifications. Simply look at the top of the box and no side lever. They are not going to make a perfect fitting mopar unit for the possible 300 sales they might make and with no side shifter there is the first cut one has to make. I have an A855 and they fit exactly like a factory 4 speed.

It seems so many companies that sell aftermarket parts/accessories for the performance market "claim" they have invented the perfect answer. Then once you put them on, they don't fit, or you need to buy more parts so it'll work. They never tell you clearly what issues might arise if you decide to use their product.

Tremec was a perfect example.

Having to find out the hard way so many times.

Don't know how you can past judgement so quickly on the McLeod transmission when the "Mopar version" is not even out yet ?
There's definitely a market for a direct bolt in 5 spd, so why not wait and see what they come up with ? To assume that it won't fit and that they only project 300 sales, is ridiculous at this point.  :2cents:

At least see if it might work.
Hopefully this will be an exception.

I wonder why they don't offer a bolt in replacement?

Hacking the crap out of my floors is not very appealing.

Do you really want to know why?  We are only 10% of the aftermarket, a terribly small segment, plus we require the most modifications to fit into our cars.  I'd run away as well.
Crank it up Jamie!
