Vinyl Top or No
« on: April 25, 2014 - 06:49:07 PM »
Car is getting ready to go to paint and I am thinking of leaving the vinyl top off.  It's a 1972 Rallye Challenger.  Will leave it completely original except for this.  It did come with a vinyl top....on fender tag.  The car will be painted factory original light green metallic.

I have seen the 72's without and I liked the look.

Just looking for thoughts and input.  Any pics of a 72 without would be great to see.

Thanks.

Personal preference you can always put in on after paint, but you can't take it back off. I left mine off because I prefer that look.

My car has one, it will get repainted maybe later this year, I love the look of a vinyl roof however, its coming off, the maintenance, cleaning and associated problem potential with rust that cant be seen until its too late are enough for me to go back to a painted roof.

I like the look of the vinyl tops so I will be keeping mine. It all depends on what you like

I like the vinyl top. It just set it apart  and it's how the car was born, but with that said it's your car, do it the way you like it

Personally, I prefer the vinyl top versus the bare tops. The vinyl breaks up the color and just looks better.

But, of course, your car your decision. Let us know which way you went topless or covered.

Personally  I hate the look of a  vinyl .  Roof . To me the ebody has such a  grace fully  body shape  with the flow of  the high hips and low roof. Which all works. As one  .Vinyl  roofs looks  awesome on the dodge charger  .plus  the rust. That  is offen found  under a  vinyl roof  no thanks.  But at the end of the day it's your car your call,  what  ever makes you happy  just my 2cents

I also like the way a vinyl top breaks up the color on these cars.  Especially the high impact colors, just a nice contrast IMO.

Why not use a textured paint  on the roof? My 73 came with vinyl but rusted out around rear window. Planning on orange body with black textured paint on roof.
