Price check on a 71 Challenger
« on: April 28, 2014 - 12:25:19 PM »
I think it is time to sell my nearly complete project. I haven't touched it in a year because I have a growing family and no time or money. Not sure where to start on an asking price. I have about $35,000 in it in total, but I am not trying to recoup that, just want a fair price.

You can see some of the progress in my resto thread, but here are some pics as it currently sits. It is not numbers matching. Original 318 b5 blue automatic car. Now black on black 4-speed 340. Completely rust free and currently running and driving. The chrome isnt perfect and the seats have old upholstery.

Please comment if you have an idea on price from the info I have provided. Please let me know if you need any additional info or if you are interested in buying it. I am located in California.

I can also be reached by email at cwheable@yahoo.com

That's beautiful.  :ylsuper:

Seems like you can just drive it and not spend time or money on it.
Sure is a shame you have to get rid of it if it's in driveable shape.
I hate to see getting rid of something that is nearly (or from what I see is) complete.

I KNOW what you are going through ... been there myself ... allow me to pass on a little nugget of a lesson learned.

In '83, before I met my future (and current) wife, I managed to purchase a real-deal '70 HemiCuda for $11,500.
Met wife in '86 ... sold HemiCuda the same year and "downsized" to a more affordable '70 Challenger convertible.
In '89 wife wrecked Challenger convertible ... with "a growing family" I could only afford a '70 Duster 340 as a replacement for the Challenger.
By '93 all Mopars were gone and I was driving a mini-van :eek4:
21 years later kids are now grown and out of the house and I'm looking at trying to get back in to the Mopar hobby but my how prices have skyrocketed! :crying:  For $11,500 I might, MIGHT, be able to find a decent "builder", but a Hemi, HAH! I couldn't even "sniff" a Hemi engine for that kind of cha-ching now! :grinno:

So what is the "nugget" of a lesson learned?
If at all possible ... HANG ON TO YOUR CAR AND STASH IT AWAY SOMEWHERE!!
Stuff it in the garage ... put it in your folks garage ... put it in your wife's folks garage ... stuff in your uncles barn ... etc, etc, etc.
Hang on to it if you can and save it for the future ... before you know it, 20 years will have gone by and you'll be kicking yourself for letting it go (like I am :( )

Very cool car. You'll find no shortage of guys going through mid life crisis who would love to show that off
Like Alan said, ask high 20s
If you NEED the money more than the car, sell it.
I am one who thinks tribute type cars are not going to climb dramatically in value.
There are better investments out there, like....
your kids educations to name one.

Thank you for all the responses. I have actually been contacted by a few members who may be interested in the car. So far the offers are on the lower end of the 20s.
