Need some clarification
« on: April 29, 2014 - 04:02:14 PM »
I bought a 1970 challenger and it has the R/T badges on it. After decoding my finder tag, it is the A66 package with the 340-4speed. My vin states JH23. To my understanding a true R/T has JS. Why did the 70' A66 come with the R/t badges?

It's not an R/T somebody just added the badges. Just like the T/A is an option pkg on the JH model.

Read the same thing I discussed in the restoration link in my sig.  I ended up taking the R/T badges off my a66.

So it basically has everything the R/T offers it's just not a true R/T?

Do not be disheartened that it is not an R/T, it is still very desirable in being an A66 Challenger. :2thumbs:

Not everything... Most.... A66 doesn't include a Rally dash standard.. Or a Big Block... But the 340 is no slouch..

340' s are great performers. I laid it to many a car in my old 340 Dart back in the day. They respond very well to bolt on mods....   :burnout:

There was no 340 R/T in '70.

Actually sounds like a very cool car!! :2thumbs: Those back in the day were considered cars under the radar. Young males with less than perfect driving records (a lot of military also) opted for cars with all the RT options, but without an actual RT designation in the vin, qualified them for lower insurance rates. So, it had the specs of an RT, but technically was an everyday ride. The true gearhead knew this was not the case though. LOL

I have a similar 70 with the A31, which had hemi suspension along with max cooling, 383 4 barrel.
