E-body window moldings repro Vrs original
« on: May 02, 2014 - 05:08:50 PM »
My neighbor has a original 74 barracuda as a driver. He wants me to replace all his windshield and back glass moldings for him (saturday job) . I think I could spend 6-8 hours or so to get his originals close to mint. There is no question that they fit good. My question is How good are the reproductions with fit and finish. Anyone here used them yet. Are they worth the money. They look to be around $450 for the front and rear. I would like some real world feedback on them.

John did you buy repops or restore the originals? I am also curious about the quality of the aftermarket ones.

I've never used those items but I would absolutely pull and buff the originals if at all possible. My experience with repro anything has not been good, especially at $450 to experiment.

I just ordered a set of windshield moldings out of curiosity, but it will be awhile before I get them installed.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

I bought the reproduction AMD front windshield trim and the top corners were sticking up too high.
The lower piece is great. I ended up putting my old ones back on.

Save your OEM's just in case.

Not a window molding, but I recently bought the headlight surround molding for my 70 Cuda grille.  It took some time to make it look good.  About the same amount of time as buffing out the older ones I was able to re-use.

I'd go with originals if they can be salvaged.

Thanks for the input guys. My originals aren't bad, 2 tiny dings and a few scratches. I think I'm just gonna send them to MCB  (tuff wheel guy) and have them restored along with my grill.
