Name this part....
« on: May 02, 2014 - 11:16:43 PM »
Can anyone confirm what this bracket is for? I can tell you its off a 1970 challenger... is it off the rear valance? should there be two?

Thanks for the help everyone!

You are correct rear valance challenger, now I can't remember but I think there's four of them all together.

I've owned quite a few 70 Challengers, along with some 71's & I've never seen a bracket like that on the rear valance..... Or anywhere else... There are similar brackets on the grill but that isn't what that bracket fits... I'm sure it's a Mopar bracket by the way it's made but I don't recognize it as a 70 Challenger part...

I'm going to name him Bob.... :smilielol:
No wait....nick name him "Lefty"... :roflsmiley:

Must be a 70 Challenger only thing....Never seen one on a 1971....Certaintly not on a rear valance.

Could be a 72-74 Challenger upper front fiberglass facia mounting bracket :dunno:

Doesn't look like anything I've ever seen on 70-71 cudas or challengers.

Yes. Those brackets were used on the rear valance of a 70 Challenger, and 70 Cuda with exhaust cut outs, but are commonly missing on many restorations I've seen. Here are pics from the FSM of the brackets on the Cuda and Challenger. There was apparently suppose to be a total of 4 per car, 1 on each side of the openings for the bumper guards. From what I've seen and documented, the AAR and T/A never used these reinforcements, as the rear body panel bumper mounting cross member does not have the holes for mounting them.

Interesting... I've owned E bodies since 74-75, never been without one & have had as many as six at the same time (mostly performance models)..... I've never seen those brackets... Seen the holes in the valance but never seen the brackets... I strongly suspect they were either eliminated from production early or simply didn't get installed by some line workers...

AH HA! Quite interesting indeed. Great research. ....in this case , my car is a 318 early build date (oct69) so that part does make sense.

Thanks for the help everyone!
