It was an LA feature that was built in to their numbering system :2thumbs:
1970 Barracuda   (O^--^===|===^--^O)
1971 Barracuda   (O O {]{]{]|[}[}[} O O)
1970 Challenger  (O O [======R/T=] O O)
1971 Challenger  (O O ===== ===== O O)

So like a space filler?

I wish I could tell why she was made the way she was. She has a flat hood, no R/T badge on the trunk, and no wood grain on the door panels. My dad was there the day the first owner picked her up and that is how she arrived...but no codes to verify

Do you have the build sheet for the car too ?
Sometimes that has information on it to what came on the car, some things were simply left off and sent out unfinished or parts interchanged when the car was sitting at the dealership before the owner came to collect ordered cars.

Nope. I got struck by the LA curse. From what I understand something happened in transport hwee they had to change the hood and trunk and the orig owner didn't want to wait for the R/T ones. But being more than 40 years ago...memories slip a bit

I remember Barry answering this on another post here, and he said it was an LA thing/characteristic. I have a couple LA cars and they all have that code duplicated as well.

I know this thread is very old...
The VON on my Challenger starts with 107 also, was sold new at Del Amo Dodge in Torrance, CA. Do you know where yours was sold? Because of the similar VON they might have been sold at the same dealer.
