This just in....ALL DONE!!!
« on: May 07, 2014 - 12:14:23 PM »
Okay...So I'm going to try and post some "real time" assembly pictures of the latest car coming into my shop.

The plan WAS to be going from empty shell to driving car in about 2-3 weeks....However...The Tremec 5spd I ordered in January has still not arrived...They told me 4 weeks it's been 15 weeks :crying:

So I'm going ahead with the re-assembly, but at a much different pace because of the missing transmission parts. I'll explain along the way why things are out of my typical reassembly order...

Here's the car in question BEFORE restoration. Some of you guys might recognize it from being advertised quite a bit for sale on Moparts.com, heck the previous owner might even be a member here. Darren ?

The car is a 1971 Challenger R/T, 383 4spd. Original FC7 with white interior, white stripes, and an original N96 Shaker car....

I stripped the car later that year and sent it to Eramossa Autobody to be blasted and epoxy primed.
An important first step in any restoration.

I have a couple of different options for metal work. In this case the current owner at the time choose to take the car to Boothill Auto Resurection in Erin ON. This was my first experence with them for metal work....
The car sat for almost a year before the project was moved there. I work at the pace set by the car owner's budget.

Long story short.....The project had to be abandon and sold late in 2013. Thankfully a new owner stepped in and wants the car finished ASAP....
Which meant sending it to my body shop that I use all the time, Waterdown Collision to get her done! This is the 14 car they have painted for me. :2thumbs:

Here's the pictures they sent me today :droolingbounce:

The car will be delivered to my shop on Friday May 9th 2014....

Looks like a solid beginning to a great car?   So curious . . . Is your shop at your home?   :clueless:

....Is your shop at your home?   :clueless:

YES....that's why I'm on this dam time consuming computer all the time :roflsmiley:

Seriously, I do all the disassembly, reassembly here at home in a two car garage. I restore all the components here. I outsource metal/body/paint but I use the same guys all the time. Let them have the high overhead I say. :grinyes:

I Keep prices affordable by not paying rent on a huge shop and I keep things moving because I can only have one car here at a time. I do have four storage units to keep other cars staged while waiting.....My system works well....

My shop, and my 1100 sq/ft basement workshop....

Very nice! :2thumbs: Do you have access to move the car bodies into the basement?

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

There is a staircase at the back of the garage....and judging by the extent of some of the rust buckets I've restored....yes :roflsmiley:

Sweet!   :bananasmi  This will be a fun thread!!!!
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Just wondering when the CC.com pool party is?  :dunno: :stirpot:

 Just kidding, when I was there I found it surprising  the quantity and quality  of the work you do in such a compact environment. :clapping:  You must have good neighbours!
