Front valance fasteners

Looking at the this photo of front valance fasteners, can anyone tell me what the large U-nut is for?

MOPAR or NO car!

'72 'Cuda 340, white on white
'72 Sebring; bracket project
'64 Imperial Crown black on black
'66 Imperial Crown; parts car

Not 100% sure but I would think the centre support.

Not 100% sure but I would think the centre support.

Yes, center support.  Just went out to the garage and snapped these photos.  Hope they help.
