thoughts on painting on hood blackout
« on: May 09, 2014 - 10:12:26 PM »
the challenger is gonna be going to be ready for paint soon and i'm thinking about having the hood blackout painted on before the clear coat is applied. i havent seen any cars done like this and can't find any pictures. what do you guys think? good idea or will it just not look right?

Normally these are done as a vinyl application after painting, like the stripes.   :dunno:

I think the blackout is supposed to have a flat/satin finish. If you paint the blackout then clear coat it will have a glossy finish. :burnout:

That's what I was wondering. Once satin or matte paint is clear coated does it look glossy?

you can paint the hood over the clear though or there are satin clear coats that could be applied if you mask off the area

I have the RT blackout and have base clear paint. My painter simply masked off the area that was to be blacked out and painted last. Same for the bumblebee on the back.
