AC electrical question
« on: May 14, 2014 - 09:24:51 PM »
I have a 73 Challenger. New engine harness.
Working Rebuilt blower motor.
Car has been running and driving for some time now, so I'm interested in testing the AC system.
Looking for some correct guidance here.
I have a shop manual that details the wiring diagram. Only issue I see is a few of my wires do not match up with the diagram..
I'm not perfect by any means, and I'm no electrician.

AC low pressure switch- two dark blue wires- One blue coming from the compressor to the low pressure switch, one going off to...????
The blower motor- my wire is dark green- (my error) should go to???? On the harness.

My harness is current try connected like so: (don't laugh if it's wrong)
Dark blue wire to the alt
Lt green wire to the alt

Grey wire running to my electric choke.

"Spare" wire connectors:
Brown wire on harness
Dark blue wire ---

According to the diagram:
looks like the dark blue wire  should go to the blower motor by proximity alone.

Looks like the brown wire should be hooked to the alternator and the blue wire that is on the alt should go to the low pressure switch.

Thoughts?

Dan

Didn't read you whole question, So I might have missed something.

Your power comes from the upper and lower green and blue wires on the A/C switch. It doesn't matter which is plugged where. When you push any "A/C" button, these 2 short together, sending power out to the low pressure/drier switch. If this low pressure switch has enough pressure, it is closed sending power to the clutch. That is it.

I have 3 A/C e-bodies and one was a non-a/c car that I converted. Black interior big block car with long 1-7/8 tube headers under the floor.
Feels good to be able to roll up the windows and stop sweating.

I had a little more time to read the question today.

You have a blue and green wire going to the alternator field wires. These come from  of the voltage regulator.

Do not get them confused with the green and blue wires for the A/C blower and compressor circuit. These 2 plug in on the small 4 pin plug, also used by the reverse light circuit. Blue goes to pressure switch, green goes to blower motor.
