Any 360 block you use will require you to have it bored .30 over to get to a 408 Stroked.  Have you looked at what crank and rods you are going to use?
I just built one and used a Hydraulic Roller set up on a LA block and iron heads and had to open up the pushrod guide holes.  I would go full rollers or flat tappet if you are going iron heads.  If you go aluminum I think you will be fine for any of the 3 options.  But it has great power and it loves to

I'm thinking of having a 408 stroker built out of a 360 core while I drive the 318. .......I won't be building the engine myself, I don't have the tools or know-how. Any information you can provide to help me make a sound judgement would be very helpful.

Since the cost to have someone else do all the machine work and assembling for you will run pretty high anyways, have you considered buying an already done stroked motor?

I have had my eye on Indy's 408 stroker for a time now......around $7k COMPLETE and tested.  Just drop it in the car.

Yea I've looked at crates, but a lot to put out at one time. I figure I can slowly build the engine as funds allow. I'd have to pay for machining, but I have enough people in the know-how to help with the assembling portion.

Now there's a local 440 block for sale, I might go take a look at. I don't know what I want to do yet ha...

The only oddball rumor I have heard about early 360 blocks is that they can be bored out as much as .1 over. Something to do with the cylinder wall casting being based on the 340.
No idea if its true or not.
