Steering column electrical connections
« on: May 26, 2014 - 04:29:28 PM »
I seem to have a mismatch between whats hanging down as far as connectors for the steering column and what I have on the steering column.

As you can see from the pictures I have the main connectors for the steering column but then I have the large red and black male connectors for which I don't know where they go and then the small three pin connector which I don't know where that connects either.

If anyone knows if the green wire to the open female three prong in the upper portion of the third picture is wrong let me know.

I have figured out the turn signal flasher goes into the "L" shaped connector to the far right upper portion of the 3rd pic.

Tom let me know that the white and pink connectors go to the brake pedal switch

Any help would be appreciated.

The pink and white wires goes to your brake pedal switch.

I'll go and check on the other wires here in a sec.

Being an aftermarket wiring coming out of the steering column, it may have options not used for your application.
The red and black ones in question look to take a large power supply, which I don't have on mine.

Edit: I also do not have the small 3 pin connector.  :clueless:

Hey Tom!

I think I figured it out with the large red and black connectors. For some reason they leave it disconnected from it's white connector. If you look at the connector there are 2 spare opening on it at the end. All I have to do is figure out which is red and black and push them in.

As for the other connector, I'll have to figure that three prong connector out.l

Thanks again,
B

Tom

Can you take a picture of your white connectors connected under the dash?

It would help alot!

Thanks,

I think it should look something like this.

Which would mean that you take the black wire and plug it into the 2nd connector position and then take the red wire and plug it into the 5th connector position!

Thanks Tom! - I'd still like to see a pic to confirm

Thanks Tom that confirms what I thought but now I think I may have a bigger problem.

I think I'm screwed. The folks that rebuilt the steering column used 71-74 ignition parts it seems and that's why that extra connector seems to be in there.

Anyone want to give me better news?

Is there a reason you need to use it if it doesn't apply to you?

I don't know if you can use a 71 setup in a 1970 as the wiring might be different but I'll take a look.

Bryan, Are you talking about the little three pin connector coming out of the steering column?
Because my 71 manual doesn't show it as an option.

I was looking at Jim's parts and he has two different setups one for a 1970 and one for a 1971 which shows the extra three prong connector.

I was thinking hey just push it all together and plug it in but it seems the colors are not lining up.

This is bumming me out.
