engine running rich

hello,

I bought a new edelbrock 600 cfm carb for my 360. I worked great for about a week. I had it dialed in with a vacuum gauge and it idled smooth and didnt run rich at all. Then, I went out today and it was running real rich, the engine was shaking, and I noticed gas leaking around the pump on the carb. After I turned the engine off I saw gas comming out of the primary jets. I have no idea what happened. Here is the other weird thing. I can pull 2 plug wires and it doesnt seem to affect the way the engine idles. any 2 wires. I have it timmed at tdc. It isnt back firing and it is flooding after I turn it off becuase the fuel is pouring out of the jets and when I open the throttle, all the gas dumps in the intake and it takes a while to start. I have tired turning the air fuel screws, but there isnt much affect.

don't know much about eddy's, but I assume your fuel pressure is no higher than say 7 psi.
Or maybe a stuck float?

one of 2 things , dirt into the needle & seats that limits the fuel flow into the bowls  did you leave out the fuel filter ?
 Or as Bob suggests the fuel pressure could be too high , 7 psi is max 5.5-6 psi recommended .
 It is flooding the engine , I would pull all the spark plugs & crank the engine over to get rid of the extra fuel AFter fixing the carb & possible replace or at least clean the plugs with brake clean

ok cool. I will check both. I'm pretty sure I can check fule pressure with my vac gauge. One of my rubber fuel lines had some pieces that diteriorated on the inside and am guessing a piece of rubber may have made its way into the carb. I didnt know it was bad until I pulled it off.

Ya, have the only fuel filter within a few feet of the carb inlet.

I took the carb apart and looked clean. nothing seemed to be blocking the needle and seat. I did notice one of the floats hangs down almost a half inch lower than the other when you hold up the top part of the carb. If I flip it upside down the floats are at the same level (both pushing in the needles). Not sure what could have cause it. I was careful when I pulled the pin out of the float to check the needle.

at least on a Holley, floats should be same height.
make sure one float does not have a hole that allows gas to leak in.
Set proper float level, and maybe you'll be good to go.

The other thing to look at is the port the brake booster connects to can lean out 2 cylinders that the port feeds if the booster is leaking internally
