Trunk pan holes - can I seal them up?

I was going to buy the trunk pan plug holes kit for my 73 'Cuda but I have plans to raise my trunk floor by about an inch with either wood or metal, to make a nice, smooth deck for my amps and speakers.....so I was wondering if I should spend the $$$ on the plug kit (~70 bucks) or just weld up the holes with plates?  I know of the one hole that's required for the sending unit to run through the tank but outside of that, is there any reason not to?

I can think of one Good reason to weld them up.  Water.

A plug kit shouldn't be $70.  My Challenger kit was only $40.  Search around for another company...a lot of places sell them.

Not familiar with a Cuda trunk, but the Challenger requires a hole the filler tube for the tank in addition to the sending unit.  Also, one thought if you are interested in hiding wires, I moved my MSD and battery to the trunk and used some of the holes with an open grommet to run the wires through.

$40 is doable....I'll have to keep searching.  I tried the usual Jegs, Summit, EBay, but they either don't have them or want more $$ for them.

I have my battery box in my truck and the wires are already ran for it.  All the other holes are for grommets and I'm just thinking along the lines of Cuda-Hunter and not have to worry about water getting up underneath the deck that will be there and cause trouble.

I know the argument for the holes is to remove water if you have a leak,.I welded all my holes up on my car for a cleaner look underneath.
