So.. My header slaps my T bar
« on: June 02, 2014 - 11:01:19 PM »
anyone else had this issue? It's really annoying to listen to the clunk. I tied the left side down with chain, rubber mounts and it's the right side doing the banging. I don't really want to buy new headers and dinging the header won't help.I do have a thought about chaining down the right side to limit the movement. any better ideas? some people tell me to use solid mounts and other's say I'll hate the shake.  :dunno: :dunno:

Are the headers ceramic coated? If not ,cut the header tubes and reroute them.A muffler shop will do it.If ceramic cut ,reroute, and have the 1 side re coated.Cost is about $75 to $100 for 1 side.

what about loosening the mounts on both sides & relocating the engine angle with a crowbar & tightening it down again

heating the headers with a torch and making a slight indent with a large screw driver or bar, at the spot that is hitting, is no biggee.

Easy fix for me was I wrapped the T Bar with a short piece of heater hose....stopped the loud clanging noise.

don't know if dinging, shimming or slight angle angle adjustment will do much. maybe wraping the t bar with header rap or solid mount?

Don't wrap the t bar it will rapidly rust under it and possibly fail down the road.  :2cents:

engine mounts are new, trans mount is old. I think a new poly mount is a good investment.

never done it, buy maybe with headers hot from a recent engine run, try a large pry bar
to move the header pipe slightly.  Might be able to get a quarter to half inch movement
of that particular section of the header.

Ditto this.

:iagree: plus new poly mounts for hardly any movement.

True.

I tend to not be a fan of poly transmission mounts, however. This is because if you take some flex out of the mounting system at this point, you run the risk of the aluminum trans case becoming the flex point and cracking it if a motor mount fails.
