From the internet, I did see a lot of Mustang installed that way. However, the printed instruction from Dr. Diff noted the position of the caliber ends without the pin to be at the bottom, so the pins would be at the top. Also I noticed some brake pad manufacturers like EBC comes with spring clip at the non pin ends of the brake pad. The ones that came with Dr. Diff do not have them. I might try the EBC stuff (Australia) if the stock ones (China) makes funny noises.
