Dr Diff 13" PBR kit and Year one 17" rallye wheels
« on: June 04, 2014 - 06:24:44 PM »
I did a search couldn't find an answer. Will the Year One 17" rallye wheels fit over the Dr Diff 13" PBR brake kit?

The Wilwood brake kit I'm using is a 12.90 rotor, but that doesn't answer your question. :blah: :smilielol:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

I think it would be pretty tight. Have you tried asking Cass? He might know if one of his customers is running that set up already.  :2thumbs:

I know for a fact that the 13" rotor kit that AR engineering used to make a few years ago with Viper calipers does NOT clear the YearOne rallye's. Its super close, but it hit. Check out this thread on protouring mopar.

The Cobra calipers look quite a bit smaller than those Viper calipers though, so the DrDiff 13" cobra kit might still work. This is the 13" cobra kit with 18" enkei RPF1's on my Duster. The rpf1's have a dropped center, so they have less clearance to the calipers than most 18" rims, but its still probably more than a 17" rim. That probably doesn't help either. :dunno:

I have not seen any PBR/YO combos either.  I asked Cass the same question a while ago, his Brembo-like brakes will most likely not clear.  The PBR ones might.

Best bet may be to take measurements of the rotor/caliper assembly and compare to the measurements of the YO wheel.  It would be nice if YO could provide the wheel profile and some key measurements  There are a few folks here w/ the YO wheels, they might be able to get some numbers for you.

FWIW On early mustangs the 13" PBR & the 13.2" PBR combos are both pretty popular & they both fit under 17" Bullitt wheels...

Did you ever get any further info on your 13" rotors in the 17" YO rallye's?

13" Brembo have been tried and do not fit.  I sent Year One a measurement of 13" Wilwood brakes and they said they would not fit.

That's a bummer. I have a spare tire 17" spare tire from a 03/04 G35 that I carry because of the 13" brakes, it clears the PBR calipers. Not by much, but it clears. So there are at least a few 17" rims out there that will work for the PBR calipers. Not sure about the Brembo's though.

It seems like later model wheels can fit. From what I was told they modeled their wheels after the originals. They don't have a lot of caliper clearance like late models.

A mechanic knows, Bigger Wheel = Bigger Brakes.  So lets design a Big Wheel but we'll leave the inherent drum design intact.  Why build a big wheel for big drums.   You would think there would be one person at that shop that would step up and fix this problem.  Maybe we'll have to make our own "kinda" big brakes...

I just mounted up some of Cass's 13" PBR brakes and a set of 17" Torq Thurst. Clear fine.
Call Year One or see if someone with them can measure the inside diameter of the wheels? I'd be happy to measure mine to compare if need be let me know.

The YO Rally wheel is 15" min. at the narrowest and grows bigger at the mounting plain. I can't measure inside but it's a guess of 16.5".  The 12.88" Willwood's, need less than 15", the 14"rotors need 16.25" of clearance and might fit.
When someone else has the wheel off they can give you an exact measurement.  Are you really going to NEED the Big 14" rotors on an E-body? My stock >11" disc brakes can lock up. So why the extra? Looks or virility? or Road Racing at a track. I bet the 12.19 is the most the car can take advantage of, and is the optimum size for it's 3800# weight with a big block.
What is the wheel clearance on Dr.Diff's PBR 13" discs?

Just post at the other threads but figure post to this thread as well to make it complete.

Wheel is 17" YO Rallye 8" width that I use for the front. At the hub, I measure roughly 14.75" and then taper to around 15.5". Can someone measure the Dr. Diff 13" PBR if it might fit?

Thanks
