Pics please ESPO HD leaf springs with stock ride height
« on: June 04, 2014 - 08:42:09 PM »
Trying to decide the which height spring I want for my Challenger.

I'm thinking of going with ESPO's HD 6 leaf springs.

I want a fairly stock/lower rear ride height but don't want it super low either.

some of the pics I've seen of ESPO's +1" look a little bit too high in the rear.

I'm running 275/60-15 on 15x8 wheels on the rear

I assume Mopar's XHD springs are still junk?

Real close to my current ride height, maybe a tad lower.

Thanks

The car is an original 383 4 speed with it's original 4 leaf springs that are getting a little tired.

It now has a 440 Six Pack with Hemi 4 speed and I'm getting ready to install a new Dana 60 rear end so I would like to
Install new leaf springs too.

I would like to go with the 6 leaf HD setup.

I like my car's current ride height and might consider even going about an inch lower in the rear.

Mopar HD are still made in Mexico & drop within days of installing , the springs do work OK once they settle but typically it will sit low in the rear unless you add a main leaf to the pack

Yes it would be soo easy(and cheaper) just to drive 20 minutes to my local Summit Racing and pick up some Mopar XHD springs.

Some tell me the MP XHD springs just settle to the correct factory height and people buying them need to remember that they are at "factory" ride height which was fairly low.

Anyone got pics of their "sagging" Mopar XHD springs?

I don't feel like messing with adding leaf segments and hoping I get the ride height I want.
Plus the extra $$$ probably will take me over the cost of just buying ones from ESPO.

Ps.

15x8 wheels with 4 1/2 back spacing on all 4 corners.
275/60-15 on rear
245/60-15 on front

Rear shocks are Gabriels

Torsion bars are the original 383 R/T ones and will be swapped out eventually.

Yep just hoping to upgrade to 6 leaf HD springs to match the 440 engine and 4 speed transmission, would like to keep current ride height or a bit lower.

I have other street/strip wheels and tires for the car so I don't want it sagging real bad.

Wow, the stock four leaf packs in my Challenger never sat anywhere near that high.  The edge of my fender lip was half way down the sidewall of the tire with a 275/60. Yours appear to have a pretty fair arch to them. If your happy with the stance, I'd leave them in and just add a snubber to prevent any potential wrap up problems.

If you look at CP's signature photo below one of your pics and you get the idea of how low XHD's are. CP's car looks to be at factory height with an inch or so of sidewall covered by the quarter. IMO, perfect but a lot of people like it higher.
I have XHD's from early 90's (i think) and are still sitting at about factory height the way I like it. Your car is at least a couple inches, front and rear, over factory so you need to decide if you like stock factory look over the higher one you have now. It will corner a lot better, but you will have to be more careful around speed bumps.

The ride height is OK.

I have the two hole front hangers so I could lower it about an inch if I wanted.

My concern is I'm getting ready to replace the current mild 440 Six Pack engine with a fresh Edelbrock headed 440 Six Pack engine that should be about 500hp.

I'm not sure if the current 4 leaf spring setup is going to be able to handle the abuse behind the Hemi 4 speed and Dana if I take it to the track with sticky tires.

Mopar XHD's. This was after they'd been on the car for awhile, so they were pretty well settled in. 275/40/17's all the way around.
