Fueld sending unit E body
« on: June 13, 2014 - 08:15:27 AM »
Hello

I have 2 questions about my fuel sending unit. The filter on the end came off and is not good. It fell apart in my hands. Can a replacement be put on? if so, how does it secure onto the sending unit? also, how can I test my fuel sending unit to make sure it works? I bought one from R and R salvage in the early 90's and he took one out of a tank and hooked it up to a bulb and showed me how the bulb went from dim to bright. I'm guessing thats how the signal goes to the gauge and makes it read empty or full. When I move the float up and down, I can feel it making contact so i know that part of it isnt broke. I want to make sure it works before troubleshooting any fuel gauge issues.

Thanks

The fuel sock can be bought at most restoration parts places (Roseville, YO, Classic Industries, etc) or from a local Ford dealer (+ the float as well)

Check the resistance of the sending unit, make sure it's within tolerances:
