    Ok. As soon as I install a new tach I'll give it a try.

    Also, I just realized that the cam I installed 2 months ago was made for lower compression engines (thought it was a 73 340)...

    well the cam will be helping to build cylinder pressure so ti should may a lot of torque if it doesn't detonate

    Ok. I'm planning on having the engine retimed and the carb reset. Anything I should do differently knowing that the cam is not ideal? (it's Comp Cam's 20-212-2).

    You can get a lot of power from tuning , it takes time to get everything tuned correctly
