teach me on cam specs please...
« on: June 16, 2014 - 04:46:53 PM »
my cuda had the 440 in it when I bought it, and it ran pretty good too. When the time came to do some engine work, I decided to tear it down and see what was inside. The machinework needed was done by a shop and I put everything back together myself. new rings, bearings ignition carb rebuild ect. but funds were tight and parts measured within tolerance went back in. So did the cam.
I`m learning more and more about these engines since I`m alone on this and have no one around with knowledge to help me with engine stuff. Now I`m at the point where I`d like to understand a bit more about cams and their relatives... I know nothing about cams and what the specs mean... so.... here`s what I`ve got:

Engle K65 hydraulic.  B112.

I sent an e-mail to Engle since I had a hard time finding any specs. They replied:

.236’ duration at .040” 112 lobe center .332”lift at the cam .498”valve lift 278’running duration

way cool, but to me it could have been written in Turkish ...  :violin:

Here is the rest of specs on my engine:

1970 440hp
forged crank
forged trw pistons with valve cut outs. 10-1 comp ? ( not measured)
stock 906 heads
stock rockers ,double valve springs
edelbrock torker intake
souped up 750 holley.
mopar perf. ingnition
Headers

727+dana 4;10

So, can anyone shine a light on the cam specs and how it relates to the rest of my set up please?

The cam should be a great street cam , decent vacuum & drivability , good lift per duration , probably runs out of power around 5500 rpm

Should work well with your combo except for the 4.10 gears maybe , you will go through the powerband very quickly + the carb is small with 4.10s

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
