fuel sender
« on: June 24, 2014 - 06:48:35 PM »
Fuel gauge works intermittently, seems to work after about a half hour of driving, but it still wont read full when I know the tank is full. Tested the wire going to the sending unit in the tank with the key on. It lights the test light intermittently like a turn signal flasher. I noticed on the schematic, the ground on the voltage limiter has a black wire running to what looks like a common ground that is tied into the signal flasher. Is it normal to get this type of intermittent power to the sending unit or is something bleeding through?
keep honking I'm reloading

the voltage reg on the back of the dash is intermittent so it averages 5v but it will pulse on & off so that is normal , is the sender new or used , the contact could be corroded , the new ones never seem to be accurate

I have a new sender and it is off - shows about 7/8 full when I top off the tank.

Check your float...make sure it isn't taking on any fuel via small cracks.   A fuel filled float will not float, it sinks.
