340 runs hot when stuck in traffic

When moving with no traffic even on hot hot days cars temp is fine.  But in my neck of the woods it easy to get stuck in a lot of traffic at a moments notice.  10 minutes idling in traffic it starts heating up.  Have a 4 row radiator and fan clutch with no shroud.  Was thinking about a 16 inch pusher in front of radiator but on looking the car over I see I can fit the a 16 inch puller between fan clutch and radiator.  I know the puller would work better but would look kinda cramped in there.  I considered trying a shroud but since I am not even sure where the radiator came from and even more where the fan clutch came from I might have fitment issues.  Its a small issue really, and don't want to throw a lot of money at it.  Since its only when idling for a long time in traffic, would you go with a shoe horned in puller or a wide open plenty of room pusher?

I was having the same problem and the fan shroud made the issue dissapear, you would be surprised at how much they work. I have heard alot of good thigns about electrnic fans but I have kept my mechanical one in place. I did check and make sure it was still working.

My car could sit in rush hour traffic and not overheat...

You need a fan shroud.

I'd try a shroud first, electric fan will require a complete upgrade of the alternator and wiring harness.

Get a shroud. How wide is your rad? Post some pics and I'm sure we can figure out what you need for a shroud.

Lot of electric fans require only 10 to 15 amps. No upgrade necessary.
4 Cores can sometimes be too restrictive to airflow.
Puller fans cool about 20% better than the same pusher fan.

Not going to get much air flow with 15A, everythinhg I've read indicates you better plan on an extra 50-75.

Radiator is 27 by 22.  Fan shroud bracket holes are 26 inches across.  And the lower bracket holes are 12 inches down from top holes.  Having problems getting a good pic loaded.  The bracket can be seen right of the battery cable.

the shroud I have measures 26 and 11-3/4 on the bolt holes,   the fan position my be the question though.  this shroud is from a c body and may or may not fit.  not that far away about all I can say is dry fit it and see if it works for you.

Depends on efficiency of motor, design, weight of blades, etc. I've seen fans on Summit at 3000 cfm drawing 10 amps.

without a shroud, you are churning air to a large extent.

You can make almost any shroud fit.  Make your own aluminum brakets out of 3/16 x 3/4 x 4 ft stock at Home Depot.
Its plastic, you can cut it, drill into it, etc.

From what I can see of your rad it looks the same as mine and it measures out the same. Aftermarket shrouds are available. Call Roseville.

You can alter it a little like Bob suggested by making a bracket and trimming the bottom a little for the cooler lines.  You seen how mine sets away from the rad a little bit.  You got some great comments from a few of the neighbors, they all say how sharp your car looks. Talk to you again soon.
