Oh my gosh...I can't believe you guys are serious.....

You have to understand what cosmoline dip was used for. Companies that manufactured parts for Chrysler would dip bare metal parts in cosmoline to protect them from rust for the short time period between the manufactured time and the time the car was assembled.

These particular parts were hooked on the ball joint end and dipped into cosmoline up to the area where the strut rod is anchored. Chrysler did NOT want cosmoline to interfere with the installation of the ball joint or strut rod.

The NOS pictures posted above clearly show the dip line. The cosmoline protected the entire control arm from rust up until the dip line and you can see surface rust starting where the ball joint and strut rod attach.

The ones pictured from this yellow AAR are a joke much like the idiots on TV. To use the excuse that "that was the way they were found on this particular car" is even a bigger joke....It's their BS excuse to cover the fact they have no clue as to what correct details look like.

Oops I see it now they dipped the wrong end. I wonder if it made it o e the car that way? I am just always curious when little details are pointed out like this. Although I will more than likely never restore a car to this or any sort of high level I  still curious none the less. Thanks for the response

It was actually my personal observation and opinion not their "bs excuse". You might be 100% correct but I   don't feel that strongly either way. In the end, if you are a restoring a car that has a documented history you are kind of stuck replicating what's there, flaws and all.

Could be a mistake on the part of Graveyard Carz but I suppose it boils down to,  I'm not actually buying that car and if one truly felt it was a botched "crap" restoration,  they shouldn't buy it either. Additionally,  of all the things that could be "off" on an oem resto,that's a pretty easy thing to correct.

One thing I've personally experienced is customers often defer to the restorer to handle the details and in the end, if they aren't satisfied you don't get paid until they are. That is a huge burden to bear and as far as I remember,  that particular customer was pleased with the restored product he received.

I just have to say that I don't think they are "ruining" mopars when they are getting them back on the road.
They are definitely not o.e. correct, but at least they get them driving and on the road again.
Aren't they the only people on tv that even do mopars.  Aside from one here and there.

Can't wait to see your car Alan.  Wish I knew more about the exacts. And I really appreciate yours and many others observations about these cars.
I sure learn a lot about the hobby.

this AAR is an awesome car and I would be proud to own it.  Even with it's flaws.  Over priced though. IMO

I agree on the underside. From the pics the rear floor pans look messy... prob. pics 
May be overpriced, but these cars are bought based on emotion.... I totally love the looks of this one with the top ,louvres, color ect.  If I were in the market for a fresh resto ( or whatever you want to name it) yellow AAR , I wouldn`t hesitate to check it out, and even purchase it. Not everyone calculating a loss or profit to be made. Some buy with their heart. Alan, if your aar was in this stage of the build, and you needed to sell it, or if I would have brought you my project aar I purchased for 20k,  how much would it need to bring to cover costs? I don`t think there will much difference...?

I've never seen the show or met the guy being discussed but I've been involved in enough reality production to know that the shows producers manipulate things a lot to try and make interesting tv. They will goad you into making big statements and they can make or edit things to look like a conflict. How many normal non car people would just watch a show where someone quietly does research and bodywork on a car?

All these shows are about creating conflict, we are a shallow society that is more interested in what the Kardashinions (no idea how to spell it, refuse to watch) are doing than real issues that actually affects our lives.

We were all talking about the wrong dipped ends when that episode first appeared. We thought "really? did he paint the wrong ends?"

BUT, being from St. Louis and grew up less than 12 Miles from the Chrysler plant, I know MANY of the old Mopar assembly line workers. My father was main DR. and the head of the Medical Dept. at the ST. Louis and Wentzville GM Assembly plants and used to tell me how hard it was to get rid of drunk line-workers, because the Union saw it as a disease.

All this being said, wouldn't it be funny if Mark Worman took pictures of those lower control arms and recreated the exact cosmoline dip line on the wrong end?   If you ever talk to my ex-Chrysler assembly line worker friends, you'll wonder how any cars were built at all with all of the crap going on ALL OF THE TIME! Maybe the normal dip guy was off that day and a drunk took over.

 That show is just a show, just like American Chopper, Monster Garage, Boyd's show, etc. We just watch for the Mopars and ignore the BS.

The Graveyard car guys have a unique ability to take the coolest topic (Mopars) on these shows and devolve it to into childish bullxx#$$     The Mark guy is sharp but his knowledge is wasted in the existng format.  It takes work for me to watch the show......but I do because of the cars.
