Graveyard Carz '70 AAR Cuda - $79,500
« on: June 27, 2014 - 12:58:09 PM »

I saw the Graveyard Carz episode when they restored this '70 AAR Cuda.  The owner has several SWEET Mopars.  Notice it is currently a roller but has the motor and tranny to put in.

I've decided to let someone else complete the final assembly on this amazing AAR 'Cuda. I've made this decision based on just too many other projects (home, work, etc).
The rotisserie restoration on this car was shown on the hit television series 'Graveyard Carz', during seasons I and II, and has been broadcast in 46 countries on the Velocity/Discovery network. I'm not sure if that adds any value or not, but it's kind of cool none the less.

About the car: It is an all #'s matching 340 six barrel, 4 speed with console, rally gauge, rubber bumper car. The engine, transmission, core support, fender tag, build sheet title, and vin all match. All body panels are original except the trunk pan. There was the typical lower quarter rust and that's about it. Everything has been professionally repaired and looks outstanding.
It is also an original FY1 "Lemon Twist Yellow" with vinyl top AAR, which looks amazing with all the blackout.

The front and rear suspension has been completely gone through and is assembled on the car. It sports the 3/55.1 rear gears, front and rear sway bars, and standard (for AAR) front power disc brakes.

The interior is all original, except for the new black headliner, which is installed. The seats, dash, and door panels are all in exceptional condition. New black 4-speed carpet is included and need installation.

The engine is on an engine stand and is detailed and ready to go. It was one of the last engines built by Mopar engine guru Dick Ott, of Otts' Machine shop.
It is mostly stock with a slightly bigger cam and ported heads (yes the heads are correct T/A). It has been balanced as well. The flywheel has also been balanced, and I have a brand new clutch and pressure plate. A Mopar Performance electronic distributor is in place, but I have the original dual point that is included. The carburetors are brand new and correct Holley replacement carbs, with a new idle solenoid, linkage, and fuel lines. The air cleaner is all original, not a reproduction, and in mint condition.

The transmission worked fine when I pulled it out, but it really needs to be freshened before it goes back in this completely restored vehicle.

Obviously there is far too much to tell or list in this ad, so call or e-mail with your questions. I feel this is a solid 100K car when finished, and is less then 1k away, and a few weekends from completion. You could be cruising this legend before Summer's out!
I would consider a part trade for something cool, but please no bikes, boats, or major projects. I just don't have the time or energy anymore. Thanks for looking.

An EIGHTY THOUSDAND DOLLAR project car.....now that's something you don't see every day :22yikes:

I guess maybe he's taking into account how much his bill for the restoration was....I'm more curious about why he didn't have those bozos finish the car :dunno:

This is a nice car, or will be, but I did puke in my mouth a little when I saw how they finished the underside :puke:

Well, being as I'm restoring an AAR, I'm glad they are now worth $100K again :woo:

Very odd that they did not finish the car. I mean you get that close, and then give up??? Really, how much more to finish the car... $5000. I would want to get it done just to get it back together again. Really weird.

That does seem really strange to me and that price looks high.  He really thinks a lot of himself and the work he does.   :clueless:

I remember the episode and the shop delivered it to the owner and they said the owner wanted to finish it. So he must not of finished it. Just curious what is wrong with the underside? Again just trying to learn.

Even if it was a factory undercoat car...It certainly wasn't done like that...looks like truck bed liner...Soon as I see that....I want to know what they're hiding... :nono:

I hate that undercoating crap; I would have had it the usual, primered, body colored overspray look to it.

But...it's a high-impact color, louvre (I think), rubber bumper, four-speed car, which pushes the price up somewhat.

It's not much of a project, but it just seems like it's so close to getting done, seems like go ahead and spend that weekend or two to get it done.

Nice car though.  These TAs and AARs are all over the place in terms of price.  Hard to know what these go for.  Guess #1 condition cars with the best documentation, #s matching, options, and history can command six figures, but it's kind of rare.

GLWS!

Two points: Having spent the last few years immersed in collector car and factory race prototype restoration I can say details and documentation are everything.

Secondly, having visited Mark and his shop briefly on a visit to Oregon last summer, he's doing it right. As always, this is not meant to insult anyone, what you see on t.v. is not the whole story. The show is "fun" but thankfully to the industry/hobby reinforces the importance of documentation and research.

For example, I would be willing to put money on the fact that if the cosmoline line on the control arm is right where it was on that particular arm from that particular car. We all know these, and all older cars really, never came out of any shop or assembly line exactly the same. Some of those parts were used on shared platforms and sat on shelves for years.

Admittedly, when a customer has spent a great deal on a restoration they would love to pass that cost along if possible. Add to those costs an appearance on television and good luck!
