572 engine build
« on: June 28, 2014 - 03:19:36 PM »
I thought I would start posting the details about my new engine I am building again.  Yes, I know I am never happy and always build it, pull it and build another. But this one is special to me...lolo :roflsmiley:

I will give complete pics of the assembly, as I assemble it after I get out of the hospital Tuesday

I'm shooting for 950 hp or so this time

I started with an aluminum Indy Maxx wet block.  Ported B1 original heads with 1.7 rockers and valve springs to hold 900 lift. Ported B1 intake and spacers.  I had Comp cams grind me a roller cam   .810 in .797 ex  114 lobe center  114 valve angle  296/298 @.050
Diamond gas ported 14.8/1 pistons, Molner rods at 7.100  and molner crank . Moly plasma coated racing rings and Kings hp main bearings with clevite chevy 743 hdx rod bearings. Rod clearance at .0032 and mains at .003

10 qt Milodon dragster pan with dual swivel pick up  Milodon aluminum pump  Kieth black gear drive system, ati balancer. Msd crank trigger with an MSD locked pro billet distributor. MSD 7al2 with MSD HVC 2 Pro coil, 1150 holley HP ultra dominator, but am considering 2 1050 ultras. Complete Magnafuel 500 series fuel system, and a Mezierie 55gpm water system With home built 2 3/8 headers exiting the fenders with 5 inch collectors.

I have everything here to start my build. I just file fitted the rings to the cylinders, checked the oil rings for .015 clearance and mounted the pistons on the rods. I balanced the crank on a lathe instead of drilling holes in it. It takes quite a few more hrs to do this, but it was something I wanted to do. The head port work was well over 400 cfm on the intake at 800 lift. I will be posting more on this after Tuesday with pictures aswell, once i'm out of the hospital. I am looking forward to getting this built and installed.

Some details on balancing the crank in a lathe instead of drilling counterweights.

Once you have your bob weight, then drilling the holes and spinning it and drilling it untill you have the correct balaance, you pull the crank after you have the area noted, put it in the lathe and turn it down , then install back on the balance machine and do the process untill you achieve your bob weight number. You will still end up using a side grinder some . but the process all in all ends with the same results. It is something I have been wanting to try, there have been quite a few others doing this procedure as well.

as you can see buy the time of this posting, I have been doing late night building. It is 3am here, or close to it.  I took quite a few photos of my engine build, I still need to down load them to photobucket to post them. It has been slow go with me going to therapy alot, but I am about 15/20 hrs left on the assembly. I still have to have my 2 3/8th headers to be made yet. Checking and rechecking clearances and and pre assemble takes a long time when you have a fresh new aftermarket block to work with. I have well over 100 hrs in it so far. Sorry about taking so long, but busted my knee, dislocated my thumb and pulled some muscle off the cage in my back. It has had me sore for a bit.  I LOVE MY JOB.. :roflsmiley:

I have pictures now, I need to upload them yet. I have the engine installed and mounted on mid and front plates now. I am bolting on the accessories to fire it up.   And to be honest with everyone, I have been reclusive.  Doctors are trying to take my job away from me and put me out to pasture. Been off work for 3 months with 2 months of therapy and all they did was blow smoke up my but. I went in last thursday to be released for work and doc said nope.  Been fighting depression, holding my chin up and doing what I can to stay happy (legally)  haha.  Wade, if you read this, do you wanna help me install my new graphics for my car in a week or so?  Also I left my 110 power inverter in your Challenger

Ok guys, I finally got to download some of these pictures to photobucket tonight,  Lets see if they work, then I can give some narrating afterwards.  Thanks for your paitience.   And yes, it is running now, but I still have to make/have made the headers yet.  I only have 1 1/8th on there now, it needs a lot bigger to breath.
