    What defines a "clone"?

    Looking at this '70 T/A clone got me thinking what does it take to qualify a car as a clone.  Just an engine?  Stripes too?  How about the interior?  Originally a 1970 318 black Challenger (thank you for cloning a 318), it looks like all they did was put in a 340 6 pack, exhaust, and paint it and boom now its a clone?  :clueless:

    Agree, you already defined it as a clone.  Price too high though.

    I guess that is enough to get the look right.  But there were also suspension differences.  I would have made those changes too.   :dunno:

    I also would have changed out that dash.

     Looks like they moved the antenna and swapped the hood. Wonder if they did the fast ratio steering and everything else.

    A true clone would have everything the originals had but a lot of them just have the basic look.

    Basic look = tribute? I like the term because it leaves a lot of room for the builders personal choices....

    Tribute vs clone - is there a difference or one in the same?  And I guess my question is what is the minimal someone would need to do to consider a car a clone/tribute?  I know some guys go all in with even the tiny details, but it seems some just to a re-paint and/or swap engines and call it a clone.

    To me, a clone is mainly cosmetic/drivetrain. A tribute is made to be as identical as possible.  :2cents:

    No...I would say it's the other way around.  I think if you're making a "clone" you're trying to copy something exactly...think about cloning sheep...."tribute" is similar in ways but not exactly the same....think of a "tribute band"
    There's a local tribute band to the Tragically Hip called Practically Hip.....Always thought that was a very clever name :thumbsup:

    I agree, a clone is a close replica of the original. 
    A tribute is honoring the original in one’s own way.

    It is a beautiful car, and most would be proud to drive it the way it is.

    so was this car made from a cell of a real T/A?    :naughty:

    personally i hate the term "clone". it sounds like a term that some suit came up with,  to try to make it more valuable than what it's actually worth.

    no rallye gauges
    autozone battery
    no disc brakes........check the description, it says the car has power brakes, um, where's the booster?  :clueless:
    orange box screwed to the inner fender
    wrong heater control valve
    A/C controls on a non A/C car...........come on, how the heck does that work  :eek7:
    wrong switch panel, not even a '70 panel  :eek4:
    something funky with the seat belts
    missing hood release
    something odd about fan shroud

    i dare to think what's under the car............

    no sway bars
    904 trans
    T/A steering box, doubt it


    someone is looking for a sucker to buy this.
