Wow!  That is alot of filler.
Curious as to why someone would have beat the crap out of that quarter before installation?

Were both quarters that bad, or just the one passengers side quarter?

When I got the car the quarters were not in bad shape,  rust wise  there was only a couple of spots that could have been patched. But the car was a drag car for the majority of its life and they flared the wheel wells to get bigger tires on the car. That is why I replaced the the quarters. At the time we only had the skins no full quarters were available, as far as I know all he had to do was cut the old quarters off and weld the skins on I dont know why the bondo had to be 1/4 inch thick on the quarters.  On the pillar the bondo was 5/8 inch thick. There was a spot where the original metal had bondo on it then metal welded on and the more bondo. It was a metal bondo sandwich  :22yikes:  :pullinghair:  :banghead:.

The body shop blasted my car this week and then got the body and all the suspension parts that need to be painted primed.

If these pictures look familiar the shop that is doing my restoration is the same one that blasted Darren's Dart

the car is in primer now

When they blasted the roof they found more issues

So I called my new best friend AMD and ordered a new roof. There were spots on the roof where he made patches and didn't completely weld in the new metal

Any one want to watch a video on quarter panel removal. Real interesting at 10:30 and 15:40. I had no idea that the body work was done so poorly  :puke:

Well we are starting to make some progress on the AAR. The roof has been removed and Keith is in the process of hanging the new sheet metal.

Keith and I wanted to have the engine checked out before we put it on the teat stand. The engine had been rebuilt when I got the car in 93 but was never ran. I had some concern about it having rust I had rotated the engine and tried to keep the cylinder walls coated with oil but it still had some rust in a couple of cylinders. The machine shop also found the work on the heads to be questionable. The bottom of the intake manifold was missing its cover and the inside of the engine had been painted and a lot of the paint had flaked off.

We now have the car completly stripped. We sent the door, fenders and header panel out to be soda blasted and got a big suprise when the drivers door came back. The door had a small a couple of spots that had to be repaired by the 1st shop. One hole that was in the skin, and a hole in the door frame under the bottom latch. We think that when the guy repaired the frame he didn't take his time and spot weld the patch, he just laid a continous bead down, and warped the skin. Then he had to beat the door skin to get the door to line up with the rest of the car.

The good news is the engine is back from the machine shop and we are going to break the engine in on the test stand this Friday, I hope to have some video this will be the 1st time in 20 years that the engine has ran.   :woohoo: :woohoo:

Well it been about a year I thought I would post some pictures and tell you about The resto.By the end of last year all of the sheet metal has been welded on. the shop decided to work on a couple of other project which was ok with me. They had to replace some of the floor under the back seat, the previous guy had replaced. We got the engine running on the test stand, I sent the carbs out to be rebuilt, they had been done once before but the color was off. The engine has been painted and is sitting on the K member.
