Where do I find a list of heads that I should be considering?  Aluminum that is.
Really would have to stay in the low end of the cash bracket if I go with aluminum heads.

Do the heads later , IMO , build a solid short block & you can add to it later !
I Feel the Stealth or Super Stealth  are better value for the $$ than most other options , I have used most heads available & there are things I like & dislike about most of them , Indy EZ are a great head it really depends what you use the engine for mostly , where you want the powerband RPM wise etc

Well, the car that this is going in has 4 11 rear gears.
I was wrong about the stall.  It's the small 440 converter.  2200 or so.

So, keep the 383 heads on the 400.  Keep the cam ,lifters, etc.  top end.

I would assume the 78 truck heads are not near as good as the 69/70 383 superbee heads.

The car is really used for around town.  So I would think torque at low rpm.

Sometimes I would drive it for a 100 mile drive.  Hence the huge gas tank.

Those are the ones that I want correct.

I have emailed him.  As long as they are in new condition I'm in.

Now, will this cost me more in the long run to purchase the parts separate instead of purchasing a full kit?

Next question.

I have a 440 that has a broken rod.  If the crank checks out, can I use that?  Or would it be better to just purchase a new one that has no questions.

Also have another working 440 laying around.

Found it.  Thanks Al.

I don't spend much time on Moparts.  I'm slow there.

the 383/400 mains are smaller than the 440 mains so you would have to cut a fair amount off the mains to fit the 400 block .
Make sure the pistons \& rods use the same pin diameter often now they use the smaller Chev diameter with more lightweight pin options .

So, instead of mixing parts, should I just get a 440 source kit.
I was reading on the website that a kit is about 2300.00.
Is this the price I should expect?

Is there a reason why you like the 400-451 ?

400 >> 451. (3.750" stroke/6.760" rod)  Approximate Bobweight: 2150

A classic stroker combination with a modern "all brand new parts" twist. Our 451 kit includes our Platinum Series 3.75" stroke BRAND NEW FORGED 4340 steel nitrated crankshaft with profiled (rounded) counterweights, and original Chrysler sized standard/standard rod and main journal sizes (2.375" rods and 2.625" mains.). Beware of other kits where shops grind a 440 crank down to 400 size mains, because doing this will grind off the nitriding (hardening.), or even worse, use an original 40 year old factory passenger car crank, or even a (gasp!) cast crank. Our cranks are manufactured at the factory with 400 size mains, and nitrated AFTER the journals are ground. Counterweights are also finished at the smaller "B" engine size, to ensure they will drop right into the block with no counterweight clearancing issues. Rods are our superlight H beam 6.760 rods with insanely strong 7/16" ARP bolts. We now offer fully chamfered "B" engine main bearings as an available upgrade! We keep all the kits listed below normally on our our shelf and ready to ship, usually within 24 hours! This kit is now available with either flat top, dished, or even DOMED high compression pistons, all at NO EXTRA CHARGE!!

Additional Kit options:
Upgrade to ARP2000 rod bolts: $75
Upgrade to Chamfered "B" engine main bearings: $80

Sorry for the amount of questions. I'm going out of state for a week.
so I'm trying to get my head wrapped around this before I drive off into the sunset.
