Factory Errors
« on: July 04, 2014 - 09:20:15 AM »
This car was supposedly in the survivor tent at the 2005 Nats. 71 Hemi R/T. Talk was that the R/T stripe and R/T emblem was an assembly line error. Any thoughts on this ? Has anybody else seen factory errors ? Just thought it was interesting. Have a great 4th. :wavingflag:

That car is a pretty well known low mileage survivor. There are more than a handful of '71 R/Ts that got both. Seemed to happen on GY9 cars more than others.

For me....too much time has past for anybody to really know the truth...These emblems are just a stick on deal, so it's no telling when they were put on....Even original owners have foggy memories after 40+ years in my opinion.

Personally I don't think its looking "out of place" . Lots of cars have fender emblems.  :dunno:
70 Chally R/T Convertible- Yes she's really got a HEMI, no she's not a Charger!

I don't think you can deny that mistakes were made, they were assembled very quickly by humans with lack luster quality assurance once they were assembled.

It's a huge catch 22 - we beleive that mistakes were made but we can't prove it. So do you take someone's word on it?

I totally agree with Alan. Sure there were lots of errors on the line but I don't know how many original owners I've met that had incorrect memories as well. It's 48 years ago that my Hemi Coronet was built and 45 years since my Challenger rolled off the line. I also hung around the dealership in those days and they would do anything to sell a car, a dealership would waste no time adding something as simple as emblems if a customer asked why they weren't there on an R/T he was considering buying.

Within the first week of buying my 2010 Ram, I removed the "Hemi 5.7" emblem from the fender and lowered the "RAM" emblem on the door by about 10".......Ask me in 40 years, and I'll probably tell you it came that way...I swear ! :swear:

I have had people at shows ask me if that was the way it came, because it's different then their Ram :smilielol:

I agree, some mistakes are possible, but more often than not, dealer or owner did it.

Memory fades and you fill in the blanks with what you want to believe.
