inner diff seal depth

Hi Team,

Im replacing the inner axle seals on my diff, before I pulled the old ones I never thought to measure how far in the seals sat figuring they would be seated up against a shoulder, once pulled I have noticed that there really is only a slight somewhat non existant step in the inner tube so no real shoulder.
Could someone, with a vernier measure the distance from flange face to the seal for me please, its an 8 3/4" unit.

I just finished putting mine back in yesterday .. I don't have a measurement but it should bottom out on that little ridge you mentioned. Mine wasn't much either but it shouldn't matter. Put some oil or grease on the new seal and use a PVC pipe to drive it in. It'll stop there if you tap it in right.

Just make sure it's straight and you'll be fine. Also there's a little rubber band like thing on the inside of the seal, i don't know the name of it but make sure it stays on. Mine fell off and the axle had a very small leak

The trick to keeping the spring on the seal is to fill the cavity on the back side of the seal with grease...
